The Lowell Joint (LJSD) CTE Experience project aims to address significant workforce challenges in Orange County by aligning K-8 education with high-demand career pathways in advanced manufacturing (robotics and drones), environmental science (agriscience and sustainability), and digital media (broadcast journalism and performing arts). Based on regional Strong Workforce Program data and labor market information, the project targets critical skills gaps and workforce shortages while prioritizing equity by focusing on underserved student groups, including socioeconomically disadvantaged, English language learners, and female students. Through strengthened partnerships with Fullerton College and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District, the project seeks to create seamless educational pipelines that increase enrollment, completion, and transition rates into relevant high school and community college programs. Additionally, the project emphasizes work-based learning, mentoring, and industry certification to prepare students for high-wage careers, thereby closing equity gaps and meeting regional labor market demands.
The K12 SWP Lowell Joint CTE Experience project aims to strengthen curriculum, college and career exploration, and work-based learning across four key pathways—Product Innovation and Design, Agriscience/Environmental Science, Performing Arts, and ICT/Digital Media. By developing aligned curricula with community colleges, providing professional development, and expanding hands-on learning through STEAM labs, performing arts resources, and technology access, the project targets skills gaps, equity, and workforce needs. It also offers internships, mentorships, and industry exposure to prepare students for high-wage careers while increasing enrollment, completion, and transitions to postsecondary education. Expected outcomes include significant growth in student participation, improved skill development, industry certification attainment, and enhanced career awareness, particularly benefiting socioeconomically disadvantaged and English learner students to ensure equitable access and success.
